Doula holding a newborn

The North Star Doula

About

about me.

My name is Laurelea and I am a DONA trained birth and postpartum doula serving families in Portland and surrounding areas. One of the reasons I love being a doula and being a mom is no matter what number baby you are on, is all the many and diverse ways a baby can affect the family as a whole as well as the personal journey a new little soul invites them to take.

My first baby was a high needs newborn who helped me find my passion for baby wearing, navigating the challenges of breastfeeding, alternative approaches to newborn care such as bodywork and cransioscacral  therapy. She would scream all day long and I made it my mission to learn everything I possibly could during that stage of our lives. It was a fragile period for me as I struggled recovering physically and emotionally from giving birth with a tiny newborn who required everything I had to give plus a little more. She also helped me find my passion for guiding and empowering women through their motherhood  journey so that they could find the knowledge they already have within them on what their family needs or how to find it..

After multiple pregnancies I started noticing a pattern of how each pregnancy brought new emotions and feelings that were there to prepare me for birth and motherhood. Having intense emotions can feel overwhelming, but it's just an invitation to look inwards and heal. I have a great love for this part of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period. It's a transformative time and with a doula it can feel a little less daunting.

My goal is to help you feel confident, informed, and supported throughout your pregnancy and postpartum journey.

I have knowledge on newborns with extra medical needs, neuro-divergent family members, and high needs babies.

If you are looking for doula support in the Portland area, schedule a free consult with me by filling out the Get in Touch form. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions by phone call or text.  I look forward to guiding you on your journey.

Birth SERVICES.

Birth doula

Pregnancy is an opening and an invitation to look inward on what our current baby is bringing to the surface. Being pregnant can cause old trauma to resurface. I will help intuitively guide you through this trauma informed care and process the things that come up. This package includes two prenatals where we will go over birth preferences, labor and birthing education, and postpartum planning. There will be phone/text and email support where you can ask any questions during business answers. At 37 weeks I will be on call and will come to assist during labor when you are ready. You will also receive one in-person postpartum visit after baby arrives. Phone/text and email support is also given until 6 weeks postpartum.

Sunrise and sunset Shifts

Day shift

Night Shift

Wake up to a tidy kitchen and breakfast after a morning nap while I watch your baby. Or have a little extra support with dinner, siblings, and baby during witching hour. Each shift is 4 hours each with the sunrise shift starting around 6am and the sunset shift starting around 4pm. Both shifts are meant to help break up your day and give you an opportunity to heal and recover while your baby and home are being cared for.

A day shift is anywhere between 3 to 8 hours and includes the tasks in the sunrise and sunset doula shifts. It is  a great option for education and support for baby as well as parents. Have sibling support, nursery organizing, and meal prep covered while you take a shower, nap, or just have a minute to yourself. Questions are always welcomed. A day shift is a excellent way to get foundational building blocks that you can continue building on your own after doula support has ended.

Get some much needed sleep while I care for your baby and bring them to when they are hungry if you wish. I can also wake you to pump or bottle feed baby while you sleep. Night shift includes 1-2 hours of tidying your space and waking up to a clean space for the day. While you are sleeping I will soothe baby in a separate room if they wake,  work on them sleeping independently if desired, and support for breastfeeding at night.

$160 per 4 hour shift
